Solid Victory Puts Pressure On Rivals

A solid 4 – 0 victory for Barcelona over third placed rivals Sevilla, kept Barcelona top of the league and club rivals needing to win the remainder of the games to stand a chance. With rivals Real Madrid beating Getafe 3 – 2, Barcelona had to come up with the goods, in which they did in style.

Lionel Messi, who missed tuesday training session was named on the bench after earlier reports saying he was available to play. Leo Messi, never came on during the game and sat on the sidelines as Barcelona demolished a poor Sevilla side 4 goals to 0.

Goals from Xavi, Iniesta, Henry and Eto’o, lead a solid platform in which Sevilla could never control, this is without the influential Messi, who was rested as Barcelona have another 4 games in a short period of time, which many pundits predicted.

The scoreline doesn’t reflect the season Sevilla have had, who are currently in the third position with 57 points and whom have a game in hand with 4th placed Valencia on 55 points.

In a sense, Messis’ stomach pains have come at the right time, if there ever was a right time. It meant he could rest his legs and save his energy for the trip to Valencia on Saturday Evening, in which I predict that he will start in his usual position.

Barcelona are currently sitting at the top of La Liga on 78 points and have a game in hand over Real Madrid.
