Lionel Messi scored one of the finest goals of his majestic career as his three goals saw Barcelona defeat Real Zaragoza 4-2 to go level at the top of the table with Real Madrid once again.
The Argentine gave Barcelona an early lead in the fifth minute as his goalbound header was deflected into the bottom left hand corner of the Zaragoza goal. Whilst the Catalans were unable to add to this lead, they were never threatened by the opposition and went in at half time with a one goal lead.
In the second half a spirited Zaragoza tried to seek out an equalizer, and a pressured Barcelona needed a two goal cushion to be able to be sure of the victory. Messi provided just that by winning the ball himself just inside the half way line before weaving past three challenges and rolling the ball into the back of the net for a 2-0 lead. The misery of Zaragoza was compounded by a third Messi strike as he seemingly casually blasted home from twenty yards. In a frantic final few minutes Zaragoza pulled the score back to 3-2 before Messi won a penalty which was converted by Zlatan Ibrahimovic for a 4-2 win
This was Messi’s 32nd, 33rd and 34th goals of the season, and the tenth he has scored in just four games.
