Lionel Messi says he is positive that Argentina will win this years World Cup in South Africa.
After a poor qualifying campaign messi said “The qualifiers are behind us, for one reason or another we had to make a big effort, but this is totally distinct,” “I think it is normal that Argentina are a title contender, we have great players and we are a big national team that are always fighting for titles.”
One person who will have a major influence on the success of Argentina is coach Diego Maradona. His experience as a player can shine through on the current squad. After saying :” We have a lot of faith and hope, and obviously Diego’s experience will be essential.”
Messi was question over the amount of goals he will score in the world cup, he said: “My dream is to win it, come what may. I imagine myself reaching the final, winning it and lifting the cup. How we will reach there, I have not even thought about it, but I am sure we will win it.”

This world cup, considering all the events leading up to the final 32 teams who are representing a nation in SA, will be one that will be quite interesting. Not to say that past years weren’t but I don’t find it to be as predictable as many others do. While the possibility of a Mexico, Denmark or whoever winning this year is probably not very likely, the possibility of such a team being runners up is great in my eyes.
I am especially fond of those Latin American teams (Honduras, Mexico, Chile, Uruguay and Paraguay) and the USA. However, as much as I love my country I think one of the Latin American nations will really prove themselves more than we do this year.
For one thing, those six teams really went at each other… all sort of the “sleeping dragon” type. Paraguay I think is the quietest.
I thought I could actually pick out someone to win it all (me originally going with Spain) but I don’t know. While unexperienced compared to Germany, England, France, Italy etc., these six may have kept some mentality on what they should do to win and win well and if not this year, surely next.
In general…. may it be a top class team or middle class (sure they ought to be considered this based on the number of other teams there are in the world), not everyone has had any easy time getting to South Africa. Doesn’t mean performance now will reflect then but you never know. I’ll wait until the first games to stay true to my predictions.
