Argentina star Lionel Messi has spoken ahead of Saturdays crucial game against Brazil, saying a win would be the perfect end to the year. Diego Maradona’s Argentina are struggling to qualify for the 2010 FIFA World Cup, as they lie fourth in the group, just two points ahead of Ecuador with four games remaining. With only the top four guaranteed qualification Argentina still have work to do in their remaining fixtures against Brazil, Paraguay, Peru and Uruguay.
AS quoted Messi as saying. “Beating Brazil would be the best sort of finale to the year. I’ve had a great year and it would be great to finish with a win. Beating Brazil would be the crowning glory. It will be a difficult game but we must think only about ourselves and playing our type of football.”
Speaking to more reporters upon his arrival, “The key will be to keep possession and try to win from the first minute,” Messi claims.
“I have won very important titles with Barcelona, and to beat Brazil and qualify for the World Cup would be the best achievement. Winning this match, and the one against Paraguay, would be a great step.”
The match mas been moved to Leo’s home town of Rosario, because the stadium is said to provide a more intimidating atmosphere than the usual home, The Rover Plate Stadium. “I am immensely happy that the game is being played in Rosario,” Messi is quoted as saying.
