Lionel Messi may miss Barcelona’s Spanish league match against Zaragoza on Sunday because he is suffering from toothache. Coach Pep Guardiola says Messi doesn’t feel well due to swollen gums but that he’ll “travel with us and we’ll see how he is.”
Messi has scored eight of the European champions’ last 10 goals to take his total to 31 for the season. Guardiola says the team is not dependent on the FIFA player of the year who “knows that all alone he can’t do it all.”
Laporta, who met with 600 autograph hunters upon arrival in Zaragoza this afternoon prior to this evening’s kick off, stated that it is important not to play the Ballon d’Or winner if he is not fully fit.
He said to the waiting journalists, “I always to see [Lionel] Messi play, because he is the best player in the World, but [Pep] Guardiola needs to make a decision because we cannot endanger him. “If he does not play, we will still be a competitive team.”
Defending champion Barcelona are three points behind leaders Real Madrid with this game in hand a possibility to level the points tally.
