Messi has joined the number of players who want Cesc Fabregas to be a player of FC Barcelona next season. Fabregas was part of Spain’s successful World Cup winning squad, but his time in South Africa was overshadowed by continuing speculation surrounding his club future.
Barcelona defenders Carlos Puyol and Gerard Pique caused controversy on Monday as they forced a Barca shirt around Fabregas’ neck during Spain’s World Cup celebrations in Madrid. Andres Iniesta then reiterated his desire for the 23-year-old to join the club at a press conference on the same day and the lobbying has even reached Panama, where Messi is for a charity match.
“I would be delighted if he came,” Messi said at a press conference on the eve of the game. “We played together as kids (in Barca’s youth team) and he knows the club.
Arsenal are disappointed with the way Barcelona are trying to unsettle Cesc, with club bosses quoted as being ‘furious’. Wenger has vowed to fight hard to keep hold of his influential skipper, who was used mainly as a substitute by Spain during the World Cup.
Messi is keen to start work with Barcelona wants more declaring, “Let’s hope we can be together soon to start preparing for the new season.”
