Brazil’s Danny Alves has criticised South American rivals Argentina for not being good enough to support Lionel Messi.
Alves is team mates with the World Footballer of the Year and believes that Messi has not really shone on international duty because the Argentina national side lacks the brilliance of Barcelona. Speaking to The Times, Alves, said:”I think the reason Messi has difficulties with Argentina is because there is no comparison between Barcelona and Argentina. With all respect to the players in Argentina, there is no comparison between the two.At Barcelona, he has players of his level.”
Messi didn’t exactly blend into the background when Argentina played Nigeria last week, and he’s likely to grow in the competition. Alves feels that their is a lot of pressure put on a player of Messi’s tender age.
“Messi is young,” he added. “He has to carry the nation on his back and it’s a big responsibility. He is too good a person, he never complains about anything.”
This may be genuine concern for his Barcelona team mate, but it sounds a bit like mind games.
