After seeing Real Madrid slip up to Valencia, a win for Bareclona against Villarreal would see them crowned champions of Spain. With fireworks and such like prerpared for a title winning party, all that was left was for Guardiolas team to do the job.
The game got off to a perfect start when Seydou Ketia opened the scoring when his speculative drive took a big deflection to loop over Villarreal keeper Diego Lopez. Despite Joseba Llorente scoring for the ‘yellow submarine’, Barcelona were able to race on to a 3-1 lead with goals from Samuel Eto’o and Dani Alves.
However, there would be a bitter twist, as Villarreal found two late goals, from Fernandez and Llorente, to delay the Catalan La Liga party for another week.
