Barcelona Fight Back to Take Supercup Lead

FC Barcelona fought back from a goal down to take a 2-1 win in the first leg of the Spanish Supercup against Athletic Bilbao on Sunday night. Barcelona were without star performers Lionel Messi and Andres Iniesta, but still dominated the early going outside a side that they had beaten 4-1 in last season’s Copa Del Rey final.

However, the Basque outfit opened the scoring when the highly impressive Oscarde Marcos’ shot took a deflection past Victor Valdes in the last minute of the first half. Barcelona hit back after the break, with Xavi Hernandez finishing off a very well worked move to level the score at 1-1 after 58 minutes. Barcelona were then to complete the comeback when in the 67th minute, Pedro hit a magnificent shot from outside of the area which curled away from Gorka in the Bilbao goal.

The second leg will take place in the Camp Nou, with Barcelona now strong favourites to life the trophy.
