Argentina Grind Out Vital Win

Argentina managed to secure three points in their World Cup qualifier against Colombia.

After a very tentative start, Colombia could consider themselves very unlucky not to be infront. Despite never creating a clear cut chance, the pressure was sustained. There were penalty shouts turned down for both sides, and the sides went in level at half-time.

In the second half though, Argentina came out to fight. Early on Lionel Messi went on a surging run, buying himself a free-kick. Lionel Messi took it himself and hit the crossbar with a sensational effort. The deadlock was eventually broken on the hour, Getafe defender Cata Diaz volleying in from a Gutierrez corner. Colombia threatened again after this, but never really created a clear chance.

The win comes at a vital time for Maradona and his players, as they travel to altitude in Ecuador on Wednesday.
