Barcelona schemer Andres Iniesta has been ruled out of the Champions League quarter-final first leg with Arsenal on Wednesday night after picking up an injury last night, according to Spanish daily ‘Sport’.
Iniesta was substituted in the 50th minute of Barcelona’s 1-0 victory at Mallorca and replaced by Lionel Messi who had been rested. The 25-year-old picked up a hamstring injury and underwent tests today to see whether he will make the trip to London to face Arsenal.
The tests revealed a small hamstring tear which is set to keep Iniesta out for ten days. He is set to miss the Arsenal game on Wednesday, a league game against Atletico Madrid but should return for the crucial ‘Clssico’ game against arch-rivals Real Madrid on 11 April. However, it may mean that he is doubtful for the second leg against Arsenal too.
Meanwhile, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is also facing up to an injury worry this morning with Cesc Fabregas a doubt after picking up a knock at Birmingham yesterday.
Barcelona travel to the Emirates Stadium early this week for a 19:45 GMT Kick-Off on Wednesday, with the return leg occurring in the following week.
