Praise for Carles Rexach

Thursday, April 30th, 2009

Carles Rexach deserves a lot more praise than he receives after it was this person who found the talented Messi when he was playing in the Argentinian league. At the time Carles was sporting director of the club, burt had previously been manager of the club both in the early 90′s and early 00′s.

Carles deservedly presented the Marca Legend Award after finding the talent, Carles was presented this trophy on Wednesday night from the Madrid-based newspaper Eduado inda

Carles Rexach had two brief coaching stints at Barcelona in the early 1990s and early 2000s, but in between he was the club’s sporting director. It was there that he pulled off what will now very likely be recognised as one of the finds of the century, when he unearthed Lionel Messi.

The Argentine virtuoso was presented with the Marca Legend Award on Wednesday night and the director of the Madrid-based newspaper, Eduardo Inda, not only lavished high praise on the player, but also on the man who brought him to the Camp Nou.

1 Key Way to Stop Barcelona

Thursday, April 30th, 2009

In a recent telegraph article 5 ways of stopping Barcelona for the Chelsea team were the following:

1 – Petr Cech
2 – Depth
3 – Weight of Numbers
4 – Lionel Messi
5 – Cunning

As you will notice one major way of stopping Barca, is to stop they playmaker Lionel Messi. Messi, the Argentinian superstar has been touted as the best player in the world at the present time. If a team players a right footed player at left back, it seems to work a treat against Messi, blocking him coming in field and setting up plays seemed to work against Chelsea.

As I said in a previous story, not playing Ashley Cole maybe a blessing is disguise! Role on the second leg.

Bosingwa Wins Battle

Tuesday, April 28th, 2009

The media spotlight was locked into overdrive as Chelseas Jose Bosingwa and Barcelonas Lionel Messi went head to head, in what you would have thought was going to be an easy night for Messi.

It certainly wasn’t as Jose battled hard all night and the final score ended up staying at 0 – 0. Lionel must feel frustrated as he couldn’t take advantage and maybe he choked under the media spotlight, its hard to say. But what I do know is that this will make Leo a better player and will want to show Chelseas left back Ashley Cole up in the second leg.

This is only the start of Messi vs Chelsea.

Barcelona Draw at Valencia

Tuesday, April 28th, 2009

A 2 -2 draw at Valencia saw Barcelona edge that little bit closer to being crowned champions of La Liga, with only 4 games left it is becoming real edge of the seat action.

The tension is becoming unbareable in the area of Catalan. With now only 4 points ahead of Real Madrid, they can’t really afford to lose a game. Although the score ended up as a draw for Barca it was in actual fact a good result, to go away to Valencia and grind out a draw is very respectable.

Thanks to a Thierry Henry goal on the 86th minute Barca looked likey they were heading for a draw, but up stepped Henry to slot home the winner.

Barca took the lead after the fantastic Lionel Messi struck home his 21st La Liga goal of the season after some good play by the Catalans giants.

Barcelona Team Valdes, Dani Alves, Pique, Puyol, Abidal, Xavi (Gudjohnsen 76min), Busquets, Keita (Henry 63min), Messi, Eto’o, Iniesta.

Messi off to Manchester?

Tuesday, April 28th, 2009

Rumour amongst the Manchester faithful are that they are not going to sign Kaka in the summer, but they are going to turn there attention to Barcelona star Leo Messi.

Apparently Crisitano Ronaldo and Carlos Tevez are set to leave Old Trafford in the summer and Leo would be the perfect replacement.

I honestly couldn’t see Leo Messi leaving Barcelona, def not for one of there cross-country rivals.

Will Messi leave?
